Blog 4- AR & Curiscope Virtuali Tee

Augmented Reality technology refers to systems that facilitate the coexistence and real-time interaction of both real and virtual objects in the same physical space (Bower et al., 2013). As Geroimenko (2020) points out that AR provides an opportunity for students to develop essential skills and literacies that can't be learned or practiced in other forms of technology-based learning environments. There would be many instances, for example the presence of positive effects on both cognitive load and motivation can be observed (Cheng, 2016), the opportunity to encounter occurrences that may be difficult or impossible to experience in reallife (Geroimenko, 2020). However one crucial benefit is that it enhances the students learning outcomes (Weng et al., 2018).

Virtuali-Tee during tutorial

The virtuali-Tee developed by Curiscope is a form of augmented reality (AR) technology which facilitates unique and imaginative methods of learning for students. Virtuali-Tee is an innovative teaching tool that enables students to explore the human body in a unique way. By visualizing what lies beneath their skin, students can gain a better understanding of the subject matter, leading to enhanced creativity and imagination in the learning process. It offers a more effective teaching method than simple diagrams can provide. The integration of Virtuali Tee's AR technology is expected to foster greater student involvement, encourage more open communication, and promote a more cohesive learning environment for the entire class. This tool is well-suited for primary students who are studying science as it can effectively encourage creativity.

Limitations

A minor issue I discovered is a delay or "lag" and occasional incomplete body display happens on the monitor, this may confuse the younger students. Additionally, the T-shirt, monitor and accompanying app are not available for free, requiring schools to obtain a subscription, which could be a big expense for some school. Furthermore, an interesting problem is that the company's website currently displays all T-shirts as sold out with no indication of restocking timeframes.

Hi Yiwen,

Your blog has a simple design, which makes people feel very comfortable at first sight, and is structured in a logical, orderly and clear manner, which makes people very interested in reading on! I have also tried the Curiscope virtual i-Tee and it is very interesting and allows the students to learn science in a more interesting way and also stimulates their creativity! And the limitations you point out are also something I found, sometimes the lagging might be a bit confusing for students. This is a great blog, I love it!

Hi Yiwen. Thanks for your blog.

I agree with the elements you point to on the app for nurturing creativity: involvement, communication, and promoting cohesion in learning environments. By writing my blog, reading others' blogs and reflecting on how they can help nurture creativity, I have realized how much these apps, just as you said, can help nurture a creative, supportive environment. They may not be "the answer" for developing creativity, but yes a good activity for kindling and preparing the ground for creativity.

I found the limitations you pointed out very interesting; they reflect an excellent analysis of the app; congratulations. I also see the delay in showing the image as a common problem in multiple AG apps. It…
